Nikola Tesla (10/Jul/1856 -07/Jan/-1943)
Son of Milutin Orthodox priest and Djuka Mandic daughter
of an Orthodox priest, In 1861 he attended the Smiljan school where he learned
arithmetic and religion. At the age of 10 he built his first electric motor to
connect it to a light bulb, then he began to study 3 languages: German, English
and French. In 1870 he moved to Karlovac, Croatia where he was influenced by
his mathematics teacher since from a very young age he had shown many
mathematical abilities and his teachers distrusted his ingenuity. In 1873 he
graduated and traveled to his homeland where he fell ill with cholera for 9
months, his father promised to enroll him in the best engineering university if
he recovered from the disease. In 1875 he enrolled in the polytechnic school in
Graz, Austria thanks to a scholarship, in his first year he obtained the best
grades and did not miss any classes in the second year he lost his scholarship
and became addicted to gambling.
Nikola never finished his university studies and cut ties
with his family to hide his abandonment of his studies.
In 1881 in Budapest he became chief electrician and later
engineer of the country's first telephone system, during his assistance great
improvements were made to the central system, improvements that were not
patented.
In 1882 he joined the Continental Thomas Edison Company
in France to design and improve electrical equipment. In 1884 he went to New
York to design and improve motors and generators, but gave it up to devote
himself to experimental research and invention.
In 1886 he created his company Tesla Electric &
Manufacturing, after planning the invention of an alternating current motor,
his investors did not agree and he was relieved.
In 1888 he finished his first design of a practical
system of alternating current applied to electrical networks. System currently
used. He also developed an alternating current motor, modifying and improving
its components, the rights to the invention were bought by the inventor George
Westinghouse where he later showed the project at the World's Columbian
Exposition in Chicago (1893) and two years later the motors of Tesla were
installed in the Niagara Falls electric power design.
Inventions:
- o electric submarine
- o vertical takeoff plane
- o X- rays
- o Turbine without Blades
- o first remote controlled electrical device
- o SI unit of magnetic flux called Tesla
Tesla never married or had children, since he claimed
that chastity was very useful for his scientific developments.
Nikola Tesla died of a heart attack on January 7, 1943 in
room 3327 of the New Yorker Hotel in the United States.
5) . Foro: Sharing Life Experiences
Goodnigth everyone.
I answer the questions based on my experiences working on construction projects.
1. How can you be environmentally friendly at work?
-A way to be friendly with the environment in the work environment can be reusing paper from prints already used, because usually one side of the paper is left blank, or also printing on both sides of the paper.
- using reusable food containers and avoiding buying bottles of water or soda, eating healthy so as not to accumulate too many wrappers
- With the operational part it is good to teach about the separation of waste that can be recyclable and usable.
2. What kind of incentives could a green company offer to its employees?
-Bonuses to go to the movies with the family on weekends
- prizes such as household appliances at the end of the year for the recognition of good ecological practices.
- Belong to the honor roll or recognition of the best employee of the year.
3. In what other ways could businesses involve their employees in environmental issues?
- Scheduling training on the effects of pollution by public companies in the ecological sector.
-Creating environmental committees made up of employees to listen to proposals for solid waste management and use.
