CHRONICLE: NERI OXMAN AND BIOARCHITECTURE

Bioarchitecture, design inspired by nature

Neri Oxman is a global design icon. She is architect, designer and teacher in the MIT Media Lab. She was born on March 1, 1976, in Haifa Israel.

She graduated as architec from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem in 1998, and her Master of Science in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Lab in 2004. She then earned her design computing degree from the MIT Department of Architecture in 2010.

In 2010, Oxman was appointed as an assistant professor at the MIT School of Architecture and Planning, where she founded and directs the Mediated Matter group. The group focuses on the intersection of architecture, biology, and technology and works on projects that blend design, engineering and science to create innovative solutions.

She has developed a new design philosophy inspired from, by and for nature. He has developed modern techniques for digital manufacturing that integrate biotechnology, robotics, and artificial intelligence to create materials and forms that mimic nature.

Oxman has received numerous awards for his work; the Smithsonian Magazine Award for American Ingenuity in Technology in 2016 and the Architecture Women Award in 2017. She is recognized as a leader in architecture and design and is an advocate of sustainability and social responsibility in design and technology.

Neri Oxman has been a pioneer in material ecology; the intersection of architecture, technology and biology. Her work has had a huge impact on the way we think about design and manufacturing in the digital era.

I´m great, thank you. It´s a nice day.

 

·         Tell me a little bit about yourself?

I studied at SENA and graduated in 2015 whit a degree in Design Industrial Products.

I have been working in a Modular Furniture Company for 6 years as a design.

I have 9 years of experience in 3D modeling.

 

·         Can you tell me how you heard about this position?

I read about the position on your website

 

·         What attracted you to our company?

I read that you employees to spend time with each other outside the work place.

 

·         What would you say is your greatest strength?

My greatest strength is tolerance and patience. I think this is very important when you have to take breaks, analyze situations and rethink the path you have taken to achieve your goals.

 

·         Where do you see self in 5 years?

In 5 years, I would like to be part of a growing company, focused on design and technology projects that are sustainable and socially responsible.
